£52k pa, depending on experience and qualifications, plus International Supplement allowance of not less than £15,900 per annum
Enjoying unique lifestyle opportunities, St Helena Island is a self-governing overseas territory of the United Kingdom. Although better placed to develop economically and socially as a result of opening our international airport in 2017, we are not at the stage of self-sufficiency and therefore remain dependent on UK government aid.
The island’s team of Law Officers is currently made up of the Attorney General, Solicitor General, Legislative Commissioner Legislative Drafter, Crown Prosecutor, Senior Crown Counsel (Civil), Crown Counsel (for Ascension Island), Crown Counsel (Civil), Crown Counsel (Contracts) two Paralegals and one PA.
As a duly appointed Law Officer, you will undertake civil litigation and civil law matters on behalf of the Attorney General, providing civil legal services to Government. You must manage civil proceedings by or against the AG, Government or Crown, including ADR schemes.
You will offer legal advice to all arms of Government and assist in the selection of external counsel when specialism is required. Monitoring progress, you should ensure that all cases are completed, recorded and co-ordinated. Your remit will also include the islands of Ascension and Tristan da Cunha.
An experienced UK or commonwealth qualified Solicitor or Barrister you are analytical, flexible and committed. You have a background civil litigation, in particular family and/or medical negligence.
In addition, you must demonstrate our core values of fairness, integrity and teamwork and use your diverse expertise and experiences to ensure your time on the Island has the broadest benefit to St Helena. As an officer funded through the Technical Co-Operation Programme you will be expected to share your knowledge and skills beyond the workplace contributing to workforce, community and capacity development in St Helena.
