Rented accommodation on St Helena is predominantly made up of 2-3 bedroom bungalows, typically with a patio/veranda to enjoy island views.
There are a number of private homes available to rent, mainly fully furnished but some non-furnished.
There are a few government owned residential properties but these are limited and only periodically available.
The Housing Department within the Environment, Natural Resources and Planning Portfolio will assist newcomers with sourcing a suitable property for arrival.
The districts of Jamestown, Longwood, Half Tree Hollow, Alarm Forest and St Pauls are the most populated.
Rental contracts are not as complicated as those in the UK, it can be easier to move from one property to another when you are on-island.

Electricity on the Island is 240 volts 50Hz, which is the same as the UK, and square pin UK plugs are also used.
