2 Years Fixed Term Contract

£65,000 per annum plus International Supplement £16k – £23k (depending on dependent status)

St Helena is a small and isolated community in the South Atlantic Ocean. Most healthcare provision, including laboratory services, have to be provided on island. The clinical laboratory therefore has to provide a wide range of services with limited outside assistance.

The post holder manages the laboratory services and has lead responsibility for ensuring the provision of a 24-hour high quality, cost-effective laboratory service to St Helena Government Health Directorate, and to the population of the island.

The Laboratory Manager is accountable for the direct delivery of clinical technical services. They must have excellent analytic skills and knowledge of Biomedical Sciences, interpreting laboratory investigations and results in order to assist clinicians with diagnosis of patients. They must also challenge, innovate and develop medical laboratory practice through the education and development of staff within the department.

The post holder will bring:

  • A degree in Biomedical Science (or equivalent)
  • HCPC registration (or equivalent)
  • 8–12 years’ lab experience, with at least 3–5 years in a senior/managerial role
  • Strong leadership, analytical, and communication skills
