Are you ready for a unique opportunity to lead and transform tourism on a beautiful and remote island? St Helena Island, a self-governing overseas territory of the United Kingdom, is seeking a dynamic and experienced Head of Tourism. Creating and managing a comprehensive programme of tourism development and promotion for St Helena, you will grow tourism-related revenue and spearhead growth of the industry on St Helena.  In doing so, you will facilitate a quality and value-for-money visitor experience delivering improved visitor numbers and satisfaction, stimulating economic development.

You will oversee all operations of St Helena Tourism, having overall responsibility for visitor information services and the day-to-day running of the Tourist Office. You must review, develop and update the Tourism Strategy, achieving political endorsement, supporting and advising ministers and leadership on all tourism related matters. You will be the figurehead of tourism and a voice for St Helena Government regarding tourism matters both locally and internationally.

Managing the annual Tourism Development Programme (TDP), you will lead the delivery of the three main areas – product, marketing, and capacity.

You must work with the tourism and marketing teams to develop and deliver immersive familiarisation programmes for trade partners, media associates and industry professionals creating a year-round events programme. You will design a cost effective and impactful international outreach programme. You will also manage established events and create new events aimed at increasing the number of tourists that visit the island annually. You should continue established initiatives such as tour guide training, hospitality training and projects to improve tourism related infrastructure.

Holding a tertiary degree in tourism, marketing, business management, sales or related field, you must have an extensive background in tourism marketing, hospitality, and tourism management, plus experience with travel trade partners. Strong project and campaign management experience coupled with sound budgetary abilities are required. Excellent verbal and written communication and editing skills, including public speaking, presentation skills and event organisation will be essential.
