Total package worth up to £78k pa

Package consists of a salary of £56k pa (depending on experience and/or qualifications) plus an International Supplement of £15k-£22k (depending on circumstances).

The Royal St Helena Police (RSHP) comprises of a Chief of Police, a Detective Chief Inspector, three Inspectors, five Sergeants (including one Detective Sergeant) and 19 Constables (including three Detective Constables).  In addition, the RSHP has one Inspector, one Sergeant and three Constables based on Ascension Island, and it may occasionally be necessary for you to travel there in order to provide support to those officers.

As Detective Chief Inspector, you will plan, manage and monitor operational policing activity. You will effectively and efficiently set the plan for deployment of resources to incidents, including major and/or critical incidents, manage and mitigate risk effectively in order ensure the safety and wellbeing of officers, staff and the public and respond effectively to problems, incidents and crime.

You will manage investigative responses, and all resources associated with investigations and will develop and implement strategies, procedures and systems that underpin investigations and ensure the management and assessment of threat, risk and harm.  The Detective Chief Inspector will also deputise for the Director of Police when required, including strategic level meetings, briefings to HE the Governor, and liaison with the Head of the Governor’s Office.

You will utilise a range of appropriate supervisory and leadership skills to deliver effective and efficient response, community and investigative policing across St Helena and will have broad experience of working within both criminal investigations and uniform operational policing. You will also understand current policing challenges, efficiency and diversity issues.

In addition, you must demonstrate a commitment to the Royal St. Helena Police Service Code of Ethics and use your diverse expertise and experiences to ensure your time on the island has the broadest benefit to St Helena.  As a police officer funded through the Technical Co-Operation Programme, you will be expected to share your knowledge and skills beyond the workplace, contributing to workforce, community and capacity development on St Helena and Ascension Island.
