The 28-bed General Hospital in the capital, Jamestown, covers all areas of acute medical and surgical care.

In this vital role you will own a caseload of patients who have complex and substantial mental health needs. As a member of the Community Mental Health Team, you will ensure high quality individualised care that promotes recovery and maximises independence, displaying sensitivity to patient and relatives’ level of understanding and culture.

Offering evidence-based treatment for mental health problems you will perform patient risk assessments and provide person-centred care. You will liaise with doctors, allied health professionals and other agencies as you monitor patients and conduct care planning and review. You must identify those whose needs fall outside of established mental health clinical pathways and also apply short term psychological interventions with appropriate therapies. You should identify risks and report problems that may put health, safety and security at risk and suggest how they might be addressed.

Managing psychiatric crises, you may also be involved in assessing elderly patients, patients with substance misuse problems and detainees in police custody, as well as provide primary physical and mental health care for prisoners. You may also be involved in monitoring detoxification programmes and provide longer term support/treatment, contributing to the development of an updated mental health strategy, providing opportunities for junior staff. As part of the mental health team, you will engage in mental health promotion including presentations, media interviews and public information articles. You will be expected to be on call at least one week in three, out of hours and weekends as required.

A UK Registered Level 1 Mental Health Nurse or equivalent, you have dual qualification RGN/RMN and post registration experience as a Community Psychiatric Nurse or in a community-based team. You can undertake independent clinical decision making. A valid driver’s licence class A is required.

In this vital role you will own a caseload of patients, primarily children and adolescents, who have complex and substantial mental health needs.  As a member of the Community Mental Health Team you will ensure high quality individualised care that promotes recovery and maximises independence, displaying sensitivity to patient and relatives’ level of understanding and culture.

You must collaborate with the inclusion team, educational psychologist, teachers and children’s social worker to create a comprehensive approach to child and adolescent mental health care planning and delivery. Providing evidence based therapeutic interventions you will, in conjunction with the Psychiatrist, manage the clinic for patients with ADHD.

You will chair the monthly Child and Adolescent Mental Health patient referrals meeting and attend the Children’s Support Team meetings for education and the Children’s Services Child in Need, strategy meetings and Child Protection Conferences. As part of the Mental Health Team you will manage psychiatric inpatient admissions under the direction of the MHT Lead and supervise learners and other care providers in the provision of patient care. As you mentor student nurses and other health and social care students you will ensure a stimulating learning environment. You will also offer a mental health consultation and assessment service to other sectors including Health, Education, Safeguarding, Learning Disability, Police and the Prison.

A UK Registered Level 1 Mental Health Nurse or equivalent, you have dual qualification RGN/RMN and post registration experience including community psychiatric care and/or a Children & Adolescents Mental Health Service background. You can undertake independent clinical decision making.

As you will be working in a very small team you may also be required to work with adults with mental health problems especially if they are admitted to hospital for an acute mental illness.

You will act as the lead engineer on major infrastructure projects and through wide ranging professional expertise support government construction activities. You will lead a small technical team with a focus on training and development including mentoring engineers as part of a commitment to succession planning.

You will give civil and structural engineering support for all construction projects from refurbishment through to greenfield projects. You will provide designs and review designs by others, produce specifications, specify the most appropriate materials and methods and give contractual advice.

Holding a level 6 or 7 qualification in an appropriate technical discipline you will have Chartered Engineer status with ICE, IStructE or equivalent, supported by extensive civil and structural knowledge. Having already managed and supported a group of staff, your background includes design, design management, project & contract management and site supervision roles. You will have extensive knowledge of structural design to British/European standards in steel, concrete, timber and composite materials, for a range of structures such as buildings, bridges, roads, drainage works and retaining structures.

Acting as the Engineer/Client’s representative on construction contracts, you will offer engineering advice to stakeholders on options to deliver projects and will carry out and /or validate topographical and geotechnical surveys to determine the suitability of ground conditions. You must ensure that projects comply with legal requirements.

With experience of working to the RIBA Plan of Works 2020, you have worked with various contracts, such as FIDIC, ICC, JCT and NEC, and analysed and interpreted information to develop solutions or solve problems. You will have managed budgets, resources and funding.

You will manage the residential children’s setting on St Helena for the looked-after population, being responsible for operational safe running, which will include staff and shift management, mentoring and modelling of good practice. You must meet the arising and complex needs of looked-after children on St Helena, ensuring the service develops in line with those needs. As you help to improve standards of care, practice and intervention you will deliver training and act as a corporate parent advocate ensuring individual needs, wishes and voices are integral to the practice.

You will develop policy priority areas and manage the physical aspects of the residential setting, ensuring that it remains safe and child centred. You must see that the service delivery promotes the outline care plan from a statutory perspective, providing care and support to manage risk but also promote independence and autonomy in line with each child’s age and developmental needs. Part of an on call rota you must manage risks and responses. It’s a role that requires sensitivity and diplomacy, with the ability to deal with difficult situations and sometimes irate stakeholders.

A UK Qualified Social Worker (CQSW or DipSW), or Registered Managers Award or Psychology Qualification or Level Four Social Care, you also have experience of management in residential children’s service and of planning and interventions. You should have a varied level of experience of managing childcare residential settings in line with the clear expectations of Ofsted requirements. Your background includes safeguarding and safe practice within residential settings, analysing and interpreting information to develop solutions or solve problems and overseeing the day-to-day running of a team. You know how to provide respite care for children with and without disabilities and additional needs. You have trained residential staff and multi-agency partners and worked within legal frameworks.
